The University of Iowa Health Care Vascular Anomalies Clinic is the only specialized clinic in Iowa dedicated to the care of children with vascular anomalies. Vascular anomalies form a group of conditions characterized by abnormal formation, growth, or development of parts of the vascular system.

Vascular Anomalies may present as a simple birthmark, but depending on their location and extent they can affect vital functions such as seeing, eating, hearing, breathing and swallowing. In some cases, they can even cause scarring or disfigurement.

It is important for people to have a team of physicians with expertise in vascular anomalies guide the care for these conditions. The Vascular Anomalies Clinic has a multidisciplinary team of medical and surgical specialists that includes pediatric dermatologists; plastic surgeons; ear, nose, and throat surgeons (otolaryngologists); general surgeons; and interventional radiologists with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular anomalies. During appointments, patients see multiple specialists who develop personalized care plans focused on your child’s specific needs.
